Sint Eustatius Medical Students Receive Training in
Basic Life Support
October 1 , 2007
Senior medical students at the University of
Sint Eustatius School of Medicine received their Basic Life
Support (BLS) certification cards as part of their training in
the Introduction to Clinical Medicine class, which is
co-directed by Dr. Lori Trout and Dr. George Odongo. The BLS
certification is in preparation for the students to enter the
clinical portion of training done in the United States. BLS
instructor Mr. Jim Sayih came to the medical school on Statia
last week along with his assistant to teach the 8 hour class to
the medical students. The students passed rigorous exams
including how to perform artificial respiration on infants,
children and adults and how to defibrillate (shock) their
patient back to life.
